Iron Wolf Czure

Iron Wolf Czure aka the GodKhemikal is a progressive hiphop and funk artist, raised in Dallas, Texas. He combines trippy, dream like tracks with powerful, raw, emotional vocals and rhythms.

He was was born in 1989, in Munich, Germany, started playing instruments at the age of 12, started producing music at the age of 16 and hasn’t stopped since.

“Living and learning is the motto.”

Iron Wolf has worked with artists such as Redi Highknights, Ronin Monks, Chaotic Logic, CVS the Abstract, Daddie Poe, Cza NME, Abomination Colossal, Robby Ratchet,  S.M.I.L.E, Carpe Diem Entertainment and the Bones Culture Collective.

“…the culture of hip hop is a connection like no other. It’s an honor to really be recognized in the underground as a true hip hop producer from the south.”

What got me into music? “…two things. The hypnotizing style of late 70′s to late early 90′s rock, hip hop, jazz and northern soul and funk classics. Even though I was born in 1989, I would always hear this liberating rebelious music that my mom would play this music whenever she got a chance. One thing I noticed about music was that it inspired me to do things other than music, like be physically active, talk to a girl I liked, read books and so on.”

What drew me to hip hop? ” I would have to say the power to create whatever it is I wanna create and at the same time being able to inspire. Music frees the soul.”

My favorite artist, “…would have to be between Mos Def and MF Doom. Both of those cats are talented and they both know how to keep it simple and at the same time still make you think about what it is they are saying. As far as producer, I can’t decide between Iggy Higgins of Redi Highknights and Madlib. They eat man and I’m talking about full meals hahaha!”

If I wasn’t making hiphop, I’d be “…making disco funk or jazz. It’s really how I started out. A lot of people don’t know that I started out playing instruments. From there I went into classical, funk, jazz, techno, dubstep then back around to hip hop. But if anything man, the disco like that classic shit. Something people can groove to.”

My dream project, “is to have a feed the world tour with a bunch of cool emcees, singers, DJ’s and producers. It would be dope to tour with those individuals that would give their time out to give or pitch in for free concerts around the world and every place we stop at we feed every hungry family or individual that is not so fortunate. We’re in the same struggle and if I had millions I would not have any problem at all participating in such a charity.”

How do you feel about techno taking over hiphop? “I enjoy some techno and trance, but a great man once taught me, everything changes and grows. To me I feel like I can enjoy electronic vibes but I cant say that it is really that great. But rome wasnt built in a day. Those that make this music are doing the same thing, creating. I think that people should also take a look on what exactly they stand for when putting this out and moat important of all, keep it real.”

What inspires me, “…all comes from how I’m feeling and my environment as well. Even from things that don’t even make a sound. Sometimes I try to speak for things like plants, trees, animals. Note my name Iron Wolf. Those words have meaning but are from an origin other than the English language. A lot of times I find myself reaching for that essence and the music that you hear is what comes out. Defintely like a spiritual or soulful connection of sorts.”

“…the artist that has pushed me the most is Rodan of Monsta Island Czars. Actually that whole group is just raw and they really inspire me to come hard or dont come at all. It’s all or nothing.”

“It all comes in the heat of the moment. I make at least two beats a day. There will be times like now where I’m busy collab’ing, writing lyrics or networking. I rarely sleep haha! But there are times during the day where I’d read or just rest it up and relax. Depends on how I feel ’cause exhaustion can sneak up on you very quick. I’m sure you feel me there Ben! hahahaha!”

Iron Wolf Czure is currently working on the “Iron Godz” mixtape and the “Iron Armor” LP. They will star Iron Wolf Czure and other various artists. Also in the works is the “God Khemikal” instrumental album- consisting of more than 40 instrumentals for your enjoyment. Expect all these to drop later this year.

“…the God Khemikal instrumental album will be out by April. I hope to have the Iron Godz mixtape done by this spring and the Iron Armor LP by summer.”

IAMISEE began rhyming at thirteen years old in basements around Wilmington, Delaware as one half of the duo, Grace & Divine named for Philadelphia’s infamous Father Divine and Daddy Grace.  Divine (IAM), backed by the beats of a then unknown Scott Storch, had a prodigious flow and a charismatic presence on the mic that quickly got him noticed.  Within a year he had left school, his family, and his home outside of Philadelphia to begin work on a project with Ruffhouse Records.  This was not an uncommon occurrence in the early nineties era of experimentation as record labels were clamoring to find a formula within the new urban genre and as a result Hip Hop saw its greatest major distribution of diversified and innovative styles.  However, it would not last.

As the mid-nineties approached Congress pushed through a Telecommunications Act that allowed duopolies multi-station ownership in a given market.  By 1996 garish and overly indulgent fantasies on wax backed by third-party loophole payola spit in the face of FCC policy and saturated the industry with chart-topping singles and record sales numbers for mediocre albums.  Labels found their formula and stations found their cash cow.  Divine (IAM), like many of peers considered as abstract, backpack rappers, or too artistic to be adaptable, endured backlash in the way of soured contracts and lost friendships.  When the deal with Ruffhouse fell through Divine found himself as a solo artist and chose the name, IAMISEE- I am what I see.  It would prove to be a prophetic moniker as he took his place in a then unknown elite of artists forced back down into the basements from whence they came; from their hunger, commitment to artistic integrity, and spite for their cross-over counterparts in the mainstream, they formed The Underground.

True to his name IAM’s reputation as a solo artist grew because his lyrics evolved to focus intensely on expressing the complex demise of Hip Hop culture and society as a whole, while still plainly reflecting the joy and the struggle of everyday life.  The rise of the independent artists could be tracked in correlation to innovations in technology and the sophistication of home recording and -though labels like Rawkus Records were coming into their heyday- IAMISEE invested in his own equipment and released two albums with no label backing.  He also rhymed on stage alongside Talib Kweli, The Roots, Common, Hezekiah and many of his reputable peers before the turn of the century marked the peak of The Underground’s success in the traditional industry model.  The tide was turning again and this time IAM, observing what was happening around him, firmly planted his heels on the shore while others were swept up in its momentum.

Since 2001, IAMISEE has continued to build his home-studio and has become equally respected as a producer and graphic designer.  He has contributed four more albums to the culture and more specifically to Philadelphia’s Hip Hop community.  The albums are mostly self-produced, engineered, and all feature his original artwork.  IAM recognized the restructuring of the industry before many which allowed him to survive as an independent artist.  He kept his ear to the street, his heart in the music, his loyalty to his community, and his vision on the horizon.  He secured his own merchandising, digital distribution (in seventy online stores as of 05/2007), oversees all his online operations and physical sales, and works closely with independent companies such as Soul Air Records, 800 lb. Guerrilla Marketing and (formerly) Creep Records which handle his promotion.  IAMISEE’s commitment has paid off with international exposure (receiving spins in France, Germany, Russia, and the UK to date), an online fan base of 20,000, writing and performing the theme song for the documentary film “Planet B-Boy” with over 3 million plays on YouTube, production for French artists Kery James (Warner) and Kayna Samet (Universal) and recently selected by Talib Kweli to have his song “Threes” featured on Kweli’s label BlackSmith.  IAM is what he sees.  And he clearly sees the future of Hip Hop.
